INNOVATION

We have always seen innovation as a means to keep tradition alive in viticulture. In the past, this approach has allowed us to enhance the value of Sagrantino, and today it takes the form of continuous experimentation with precision farming tools, at the service of a sustainable business model that is resilient to climate change.

THE AGROCLIM TECHNOLOGY PROJECT

The creation of a Research and Development within the company has marked the spirit of our way of doing business, stimulating a continuous exchange between academics and young professionals. Through the Agroclim Techology project we have brought technologies for the vine defence by extreme weather events.

The main objective of the project was to mitigate the effects of climate change on vines and consequently on production, through the study and subsequent use of last generation. For example, for phytosanitary attacks due to rainy events we have realised and put into operation a model of product recovery sprayer variable rate hillside vineyard. Phe face of the late frosts instead we use two automated defrosting systemsa fan that can mix the air layers, pushing the warmer air towards the ground, and a cannon that shoots fog. And pto address the heat waves summer we have installed on an experimental basis on one hectare of vineyard a variable rate irrigationThe capacity of the drip wings varies according to the vigour of the vines.

SAGRANTINO RESEARCH

In 1987 collaboration with the Institute of Arboreal Cultivation of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Milan has initiated, for the first time in history, research on the clonal selection of Sagrantino and onthe application of modern agronomic techniques in vineyard management.

The years 1992 e 1993 were characterised by research in the DOCG area of thethe "plants mothers' belonging to the Sagrantino. The research took place mainly in old plants intended for family use, sometimes abandoned. With this activity we recovered the natural variability of the vine
Once the mother plantsthe vegetative material taken from them was used for the reproduction in the nursery and the creation of rooted cuttingsimplanted in 1994 in thel experimental vineyard adjacent to our wine cellarwhere over time observed the breeding method more suitable for the cultivation ofel grape variety.
The results of this researchwhich also involved the Agricultural Institute of San Michele all'Adige, have demonstrated that training Sagrantino with the spurred cordon is ideal for our soil
For share e enhance the results of this activity only, at 2007 we published the volume "Enterprise Knowledge Territory. 18 years of research and innovation at Arnaldo Caprai", which traces detailing the research carried out and the results obtained.

THE VINEYARD CONNECTED PROJECT

Among the most recent projects, the Vineyard Connected stands out as a digital management of labour activities and mechanical means in the vineyard, for a 4.0 business management.
