In 1987 collaboration with the Institute of Arboreal Cultivation of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Milan has initiated, for the first time in history, research on the clonal selection of Sagrantino and onthe application of modern agronomic techniques in vineyard management.
The years 1992 e 1993 were characterised by research in the DOCG area of thethe "plants mothers' belonging to the Sagrantino. The research took place mainly in old plants intended for family use, sometimes abandoned. With this activity we recovered the natural variability of the vine.
Once the mother plantsthe vegetative material taken from them was used for the reproduction in the nursery and the creation of rooted cuttingsimplanted in 1994 in thel experimental vineyard adjacent to our wine cellarwhere over time observed the breeding method more suitable for the cultivation ofel grape variety.
The results of this researchwhich also involved the Agricultural Institute of San Michele all'Adige, have demonstrated that training Sagrantino with the spurred cordon is ideal for our soil.
For share e enhance the results of this activity only, at 2007 we published the volume "Enterprise Knowledge Territory. 18 years of research and innovation at Arnaldo Caprai", which traces detailing the research carried out and the results obtained.
